In my few months of experience in blogging and many hurdles, experiences, losses, hardships in building a good enough blog/website on WordPress CMS platform, I have decided to help the like-minded on how to create a blog with simple steps.
You may ask me why should I either read or follow this guide although there are tons of material out there in Google search and physical books. If you believe me, I have seen not less than 100 videos in YouTube and not less than same amount of blog posts from a professional blog to a startup blog on this topic. Most of them are well written for the readers who are either already professionals or have great grip on reading complex English.
Many blogs have the same topic covered in their own style to give their best to their readers. I have few readers who are still in Blogspot platform or in WordPress.com who need to jump into Self hosted WordPress platform but doesn’t have a proper idea on how to do that. There are many friends of my circle who don’t even get time to watch a YouTube to get trained in this or else search for good guide on this topic. So overall I tried my best to guide every new blogger who wants a guide that will guide them to create a blog on their own.
Here are the 5 Steps to Create a stunning WordPress Website/Blog under 100 minutes:
STEP 1: Choose your Domain/Blog/Website name
STEP 2: Register your Domain/Blog/Website name
STEP 3: Choose web hosting Service/Plan
STEP 4: Installation of Word Press & Plugins
STEP 5: Selecting Theme, Creating Pages, Posts and Content
1. Choosing your website’s name:
This is also called finding your domain name which is the identification of your blog/website. This is vital part and many of the bloggers don’t take it very seriously and for me it a key step though. Remember that your domain name is your own “Brand Name”, so choosing it carefully and intelligently is what requires a little bit of creativity and research work. So take a pen and paper and brainstorm your ideas. If you are lazy guy like me to write all these manually, there are some free tools that help you find a good domain name for your new blog/website.
These are some of the best tools that will suggest you some random good domain names, namemesh, leandomainsearch, nametumbler, bustaname.
2. Register your domain name:
Once you have found the domain name of your choice, you have to register it immediately so that no one can take it away. There are many domain registrars that help you to register yourself. With our own experience with many of our clients, and also a bit of survey and spying, we found GoDaddy is one of the best out there. You can also try Name Cheap, Networksolutions, BigRock etc. You can get a domain within 10-15 USD Maximum.
Sometimes there are offers where you get your domain for as low as 3 USD for the 1st year and some companies will give you a FREE domain for the 1st year if you take Webhosting Plans/services from them. Some of the popular web hosting providers like BlueHost, HostGator, In Motion Hosting, NameCheap, iPage, GoDaddy, SiteGround provides you FREE domain for a year with their hosting plans.
3. Choose your web hosting Plan/Company:
The Webhosting is nothing but a server for your blog/website that makes your website available to access throughout the world. Coming to web hosts, those are companies that will provide you space on their servers in different ways. Some of the most popular ways of web hosting services are like Shared servers, VPS, Dedicated servers. For a new blogger or small business owner we highly recommend to start with basic shared Webhosting which can cost you not more than 25 USD annually for a single website/blog.

If your aim is to expand your business or blogging with more than 1 website/blog within a year then you can choose an “unlimited domains” plan.
If you are going to have a huge traffic and number of websites, then it is suggested that you either choose VPS Server or dedicated Server options.
Here is an example to choose a plan for your needs.

4. Installing WordPress & Setting up Name Servers:
Once you select the type of web hosting server and plan, you will get a notification from your web hosting company proving you the Cpanel login details through Email. If for any reason if failed to reason, check your “Spam” folder and you can find the mail.
Now you login using those login details and you get the screen like this:
After that click on the “Get started with WordPress today” option or you can also find “Quick install” under software and Services heading. In some web hosting companies, it is in software section and is named as “Softaculous” and there you find many platforms including WordPress.
Then select the WordPress option and install.
From the drop-down menu, select the site/domain name for which you need WordPress is required, and move to next tab.
Make sure you select a good admin name and please note that username cannot be changed and it is highly recommended not to use default username i.e “admin”. This will ensure you from brutal attacks and hacking of your site.
You have to note down your password for future purpose and then within seconds WordPress will be installed.
Now you have to assign your domain nameservers to point towards your web hosting server. In case you have taking domain within the hosting plan then it is not an issue. If for example you took domain name separately from Godaddy or any other registrar, then you have to make sure that you edit the name servers accordingly.
Now wait for about 20 minutes minimum for the changes to take effect and once you find that you are accessible to the admin login page which looks like this” http://yourwebsitename.com/wp-admin” then enter the username and password you have got from the previous step and login.
The first and immediate step is to change your default password to a more memorable one of your choice but don’t you very weak passwords like 123, abc, etc.
Now keep most of the settings as it is and only change your time zone. You can also change the website URL settings if you prefer to appear your site as www.example.com or else you can leave as it is. But keep in mind that, it is not advisable to change the Url settings more than once and it affects your Index and lead to crawling errors.
Keep the writing settings unchanged or default.
You can leave these settings to default as well but we recommend you to select the options for good effect as shown in the below picture.
Only important recommended you should change here is the comment moderation, which will make sure you have good control on avoiding spam comments filtered effectively. Remaining settings in this option is based on your own choice and requirement.
Leave all the settings as it is but it is recommended to make the medium size to 0 if you only want to use thumbnail (for featured/related posts) and large size images(for images inside post) choosing all options make WordPress generate additional images for all the sizes and it will affect your database as well as loading on the server.
Change Permalink Structure option to Post Name (not compulsory but recommended for Clear structure and effectiveness).
It is highly recommended not to change permalinks frequently or more than once as it affects your crawling and redirection errors and which in term have a bad impact on your ranking in Google.
5. Selecting Theme, Creating Pages, Posts and Content:
You can change the look of your website using WordPress themes. Another advantage of choosing WordPress CMS is that it has tons of themes available for free in its repository.
To install a theme go to the dashboard and under appearance, click themes. You can select any theme of your liking and choice from the list and also preview it before activating. Now select the theme you chose and click activate.
But it is highly recommended that you choose a good Premium theme within your budget so that you get great support and updates for every issue you face. If you have no knowledge of coding and designing, it is better to have a forum support that many premium themes offer. There are many theme clubs that offer FREE installation and setup of their themes to their clients.
